Attach cover letter and transcripts with online application or fax both to: ATNN: Winifred Washington requisition # 001680 Physical Therapist Instructor Position (written on fax) SUMMARY To provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. The faculty member's role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, personal and professional development, and institutional and community service. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop, and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning as it relates to preparing students for employment and licensure in the physical therapy profession. This position will also serve as the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education for the program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other relevant duties may be required. Teaching/Learning Support: Serves as clinical coordinator by establishing effective working relationships with personnel from clinical education centers. Assists in the liaison and coordination between several clinical affiliates and the college. Schedules all clinical/placement assignments for all Physical Therapist Assistant Program students. Maintains all paperwork related to clinical assignments, placements, agreements, background checks, drug screenings, CPR, immunizations, etc. Assists in resolving all issues and student concerns related to clinical assignments Supervises and directs all faculty/student activities in the clinicals, including day-to-day alteration in schedules, individual instruction and practical examinations. Demonstrates skill and/or knowledge in teaching discipline. Demonstrates competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional methodologies. Makes continuous efforts to improve the quality of instruction by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods. Teaches courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs. Develops and uses a syllabus for each course or laboratory within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines and submits one copy to the department chair. Plans, develops, and uses a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist students in meeting course objectives and which are appropriate for students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds and learning styles. Evaluates students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress in the course. Reviews, evaluates, and recommends student textbooks and learning materials. Keeps accurate student records and submits related reports and forms within requested timelines. Demonstrates competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom and willingness to explore new instructional technological methodologies. Academic Advising and Activities: Provides access to students through posted advising hours or activities, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods, providing advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues. Makes presentations about the Physical Therapist Assistant Program, its subject matter, objectives, opportunities for further study (transfer opportunities), and opportunities for work, and careers, special cubs and activities available, support services, scholarships. etc Serves as an advisor and tutor to Physical Therapist Assistant program students Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community. Professional Development: Establishes annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the department chair. Keeps pace with developments in the discipline. Learns and applies technologies that support student learning. If program is accredited or is seeking accreditation, then incumbent maintains the required knowledge and credentials up-to-date. Participates in the evaluation process for self, department, and college. Institutional and Community Service: Participates in scheduled institutional service activities including opening week events, conference days, and commencement exercises. Actively participates in discipline, advisory, department, college, or system meetings, committees and/or activities. Participates in college-related activities such as student activities, selection of faculty, community education, recruitment of students, and/or special programs. Participates in business and/or student activities and/or community activities that foster goodwill and promote the mission of HCCS. Reviews, evaluates, and revises program curricula and practices to ensure compliance with professional standards, college and program accreditation requirements, state-mandated guidelines, and community business/industry research needs. Participates in the HCCS planning process by assisting in the formulation of departmental objectives and goals and in establishing budget priorities. Assists in the articulation of courses and programs with secondary and post-secondary institutions Performs other duties as determined in consultation with the department chair. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities list above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. EDUCATION Bachelor?s degree from an accredited institution required. Master?s degree preferred. Must be a licensed Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Texas or eligible for licensure in Texas. EXPERIENCE Three (3) years of current professional clinical work experience in physical therapy. For the Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education, a minimum of two years of additional experience as a center coordinator of clinical education and/or clinical instructor, or experience in teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a physical therapist assistant or physical therapist program is required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of personal computer, MS Windows, Excel, Access Excellent ability to effectively communicate with students in a learning environment is essential. Must demonstrate sensitivity to students with diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds and students with disabilities. Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students in a learning-centered environment. Must be self-disciplined and know how to effectively manage others.
